Typography

I thought the typography film was interesting, I had no idea some people are obsessed with fonts. It was different seeing them actually design the fonts as a form of art, since it is such a basic everyday thing, i wouldn't have thought of it as art. So that is what I really enjoyed most about the film, the phenomenon of fonts.

Film

I found the concept of using decaying video to create something entirely new quiet fascinating.I am also a recycler, so the idea of recycling old footage appealed to me. I liked how clear the picture actually was, which was something I was not expecting. However I did not care for the music choices, I found they made me extremely anxious and agitated. I also didn't care for the length, I would have responded to the films better if they were about half the run time.
Overall I thought it was an interesting approach.

The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction

I found Walter Benjamin's article, "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction", a bit hard to follow. Especially when he would keep using the same words in one paragraph over and over such as reproduction, (I realize that is what the article is about), but the constant use of the word distracted me from the message he was trying to get across. Does anyone agree?

One thing he brought up that I found interesting was the argument of whether or not photography is art. I personally believe it is because like any composition you have to have an eye for what will look good, and you can always manipulate a photo-another artistic skill. Photography is a different form of art all together, it is just another way of capturing an emotion, event, story, etcetera. The same applies to film

On the down-side mechanical reproduction does allow for the value of art to decrease, but on the up-side the art becomes more accessible for the public.
